Durrës

Durrës is situated on the Adriatic Sea coast, approximately 35 kilometres away from Tirana. It is the second largest city and the oldest one in Albania. Favoured by its location, Durrës can be accessed easily by visitors. If you are not in Albania and like travelling by the sea, then you can board a ferry and arrive directly in Durrës. Its port is the biggest one in the country and connects with other ports in Italy.

If you have arrived in Albania by plane, you will easily find various services on the airport which can send you to the Durrës city centre. Cars, taxis and public transport are always available.

Durrës was built around 627 B.C. With a history of more than 3000 years, the city is rich in history, architecture and archeological sites. One of the most famous attractions is the Roman Amphitheatre. With more than 15,000 seats it is the second largest amphitheatre in Balkan. At the Archeological Museum you will have the chance to see one of the most known archeological structures found in Durrës, locals call it “Bukuroshja e Durrësit”. It is a mosaic which dates back to 4 century B.C. Other cultural and historical sites you can visit are the Ethnographic Museum, the Grand Mosque, the Caste and the Venetian Tower.

With its large sandy coastline Durrës has more to offer to its visitors and locals. There are some beaches in and around the city. You can enjoy the clean waters, the healing sand and warm sun. Except for the beach in Durrës, some other ones nearby are Robi’s Mountain Beach (Mali i Robit), Currila Beach (Plazhi i Currilave), Cape of Rodon and Portez Beach.
